Lidl Romania organized its tenth food collection in partnership with the Food Banks Network to support disadvantaged communities in Romania. Launched during the Easter holidays, the collection will take place nationwide from April 19th to 21st, 2024, across all 355 of the retailer's stores. Customers can donate non-perishable food items at specially designated boxes located at store exits, thereby assisting the elderly, children, adults facing poverty, and many others in need, who are supported by partner NGOs of the network.
This marks the tenth action organized by Lidl Romania and the Food Banks Network, occurring from April 19th to 21st at all Lidl stores nationwide. Over the three days dedicated to the food collection, customers can donate non-perishable food items in boxes set up with FEPRA's support, located near the checkout counters. These products will be collected and distributed through all nine Regional Food Banks in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Roman, Brasov, Oradea, Timisoara, Constanta, Craiova, and Galati.
The donated products include non-perishable items that do not require special storage temperatures, such as basic foods (oil, flour, sugar, rice, baking ingredients), canned vegetables, canned meat, canned fruits, pasta, sauces, UHT milk, packaged bakery products, biscuits, coffee, tea, jams, and preserves.
Through these food collection initiatives, Lidl Romania aims to engage customers in supporting those facing difficulties procuring daily meals. Furthermore, at the last edition of the food collection held during the previous winter holidays, customers' solidarity was unprecedented, with donations totaling 153.8 tons of food, representing more than a third of the total quantity collected since the first edition of the food collection.
Food collections organized in Lidl stores are not the only actions through which the retailer aims to support the Food Banks Network's mission. As a founding partner, in 2023, Lidl Romania contributed over 3.5 million lei to reduce food waste, financially supporting the operation and development of the National Food Banks Network. Over 850 tons of food and non-food items donated by Lidl Romania reached over 500 charitable organizations caring for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable individuals in the community.
