Saint-Gobain Romania and OMV Petrom sign green power deal

Over the next five years, OMV Petrom plans to provide approximately 800 GWh of renewable energy to all Saint-Gobain facilities in Romania. 

OMV Petrom, the leading integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, and Saint-Gobain Romania, a division of the global leader in sustainable construction solutions, Saint-Gobain Group, have announced the signing of an agreement for the supply of renewable electricity to all Saint-Gobain sites in Romania.

Under this agreement, OMV Petrom will deliver around 800 GWh of green energy to 14 Saint-Gobain locations across Romania by January 2026, sourced from wind and solar power. This initiative is in line with decarbonization objectives, contributing to a greener future for the Romanian industry.

Franck Neel, an OMV Petrom Executive Board member responsible for Gas & Power, expressed commitment to supporting Romania's energy transition through Strategy 2030. This strategy involves investments of approximately 11 billion euros by the end of the decade, with a significant portion allocated to low and zero-carbon projects. Neel emphasized the partnership with Saint-Gobain as more than just an energy supply agreement but a step towards a low-carbon future for the Romanian industry.

Ovidiu Păscutiu, CEO of Saint-Gobain Romania, highlighted the agreement as a milestone in Saint-Gobain's journey to reduce emissions, aiming for a 33% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 compared to 2017, and ultimately achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Păscutiu praised OMV Petrom as a trusted partner pursuing of a greener future, aligning with Saint-Gobain's commitment to environmentally friendly energy sources and continuous efforts to reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption.

This investment allows Saint-Gobain Romania to fulfill 100% of its energy needs across all its facilities, including Saint-Gobain Glass (Călărași), Saint-Gobain Isover (Ploiești), Saint-Gobain Rigips (Turda and Cheia), Saint-Gobain Weber (Turda, Brănești, Suceava), Duraziv (Popești Leordeni), Saint-Gobain Prime Glass Working (Vălenii de Munte), and Chryso Romania (Ariceștii Rahtivani).
