MOL doubles solar capacity with 66 MW acquisition

Green Forum
MOL has expanded its renewable energy capabilities by acquiring Naperőmű Farm, a company behind the development of a 66 MW solar power plant in Ballószög, Hungary.

This acquisition more than doubles MOL's existing solar energy capacity, marking a significant milestone in the company's strategy to transition to cleaner energy sources.

The trial operation of the Ballószög solar farm is scheduled to begin in January 2025, with electricity set to be distributed through Alteo Energiaszolgáltató. The 100-hectare solar farm, constructed by Optimum Vogt, a subsidiary of Ib vogt Gmbh, features 113,000 solar panels equipped with state-of-the-art sun-tracking technology. This innovation optimizes energy production, even under less favorable conditions.

MOL currently operates six solar parks in Hungary with a combined capacity of 31.5 MW, in addition to 13.6 MW in Croatia. The company aims to increase its renewable energy capacity to 200 MW by 2026. A key component of this plan is the construction of a 48 MW solar farm in Tiszaújváros, northern Hungary, by MOL Petrolkémia, which is expected to be operational by mid-2026.
