The city of Sântana is the second in Arad County to implement a geothermal resource exploitation project for heating public institutions, after the city of Pecica. The head mayor, Daniel Tomuța, announced that he obtained European financing of RON27.5 million (€5.5 million) to carry out the drilling and the thermal network.

"We will be able to supply hot water and thermal energy for some of the most important public buildings in the city, namely the City Hall, the 'Sfânta Ana' Secondary School, and the 'Stefan Hell' Technological High School. In these buildings, the thermal energy supply system, based on gas plants, will be replaced, thus ensuring a considerable saving in the local budget", said the mayor Daniel Tomuţa.

The project involves drilling at a depth of 1,200 meters for the extraction of geothermal water, the construction of 2.7 km of pipelines for the transport of water and the construction of a thermal power plant, 2.2 km of the newly created thermal energy distribution network, and a 1,200-meter drilling for the injection of thermally used geothermal water.

At the launch of the project, the president of CJ Arad, Iustin Cionca, spoke once again of the slowness with which such important projects with European funds are implemented throughout the country, due to excessive bureaucracy.

"I know how important those in the project implementation team are, I know how important it is to choose people with a vision, but this vision has to be implemented in the end and it is very difficult. Today's project took three years of excessive bureaucracy and interventions to get the project off the ground, and now the contractor will have to recover this time. He has a few months to recover the three years lost by the Government, otherwise, Romania loses money. We will be with you all the institutions in the county, I am waiting for you to tell us what problems you are facing, as we do with every project because otherwise we will give the money back and we will be happy for nothing and it is a shame for the work of this team that thought up the project, who wants to implement it and which for reasons that do not even depend on us can get stuck", said the president of the Arad County Council, Iustin Cionca.
