Iasi Airport to become first in Romania with renewable energy

The Iasi airport is the first airport in Romania that will have a renewable energy source, the Iasi County Council announced. The airport modernization plan provides for the construction of a new terminal, and a parking lot, but also the construction of a park of solar panels on an area of ​​1 hectare and with a capacity of 1 MWh. The stage of execution of works on the future terminal, the second largest in the country, has reached 60%.

"The visit of the Minister of the Environment, Water Resources, and Forests, Mircea Fechet, to Iasi Airport, the first airport in Romania that will have a renewable energy source", announced CJ Iasi.

The President of the County Council, Costel Alexe, together with the management of the Iasi International Airport, presented to Minister Mircea Fechet the expansion and modernization project which foresees, in addition to a new terminal and parking, the construction of a park of solar panels on an area of ​​1 hectare and with a capacity of 1MWh.

The meeting was also attended by Marius Sorin Danga, vice president of the CJ, Andrei Cazacu, the public administrator of the county, and the leader of the PMP group from the County Council, Marian Uscatu.

"We will create the airport infrastructure so that Iasi is the main communication gateway with Europe, but also all the conditions for this project to be sustainable", declared the president of the CJ, Costel Alexe.

The future terminal is built on an area of ​​over 30,000 sqm, in accordance with environmental protection objectives. Also, the equipment that will be installed in the terminal will be of the latest generation, with low energy consumption.

Also, the T4 terminal will have state-of-the-art security equipment. The first shipments of X-ray scanning equipment have arrived at the construction site at the Iasi Airport.

Once put into operation, these types of equipment will increase the efficiency and processing speed of passenger and baggage flows.
