Compania de Apa "Someș" S.A., a company operating under the Cluj County Council, has signed the financing contract for the "Photovoltaic power plant installation" project. The investment is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund, through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program (POIM) 2014-2020, the total value of the financing contract being RON 23,41 million (€4.68 million), VAT included. The electricity generated with the help of photovoltaic power plants will directly contribute to the reduction of electricity consumption from conventional sources to ensure production, with less impact on the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
"It is a new success that makes us happy, especially since we are talking about a significant amount of money that we obtained from European funds. With the implementation of this project, we will be able to reduce environmental pollution and optimize costs", says Alin Tișe, president of the Cluj County Council, Alin Tișe.
The investment aims to build photovoltaic power plants in six locations within objectives managed by Compania de Apa "Someș" SA in Cluj and Sălaj counties, respectively:
- Cluj-Napoca sewage treatment plant,
- Florești Spring Water Plant,
- The Bologa catchment treatment station, which serves the Huedin area,
- Zalău sewage treatment plant,
- The Dej and
- Gherla sewage treatment plant.
In this context, the fact that the regional water operator, in which the Cluj County Council is the majority shareholder, also extensively uses other ways of producing renewable energy, through the Tarnița micro hydropower plant, as well as through the production of electricity and thermal energy from the resulting biogas from the purification process. The new works, which will capitalize on the solar potential, will contribute to obtaining energy independence by producing green energy from renewable resources for own consumption, reducing electricity expenses, says CJ Cluj.
