The city of Călimănești is organizing an open tender for two geothermal water extraction boreholes. It is about two thermal points and the equipment with machinery and technological equipment - 1.7 km transport network of the thermal agent - 2 heat exchangers that replace natural gas boilers. The project aims to increase the production of energy from geothermal resources.

According to the electronic public procurement system, the auction is estimated at RON 53.85 million (€10.77 million).

"The general objective of the project is to increase the production of energy from renewable sources to improve the quality of air, water, and soil by reducing the degree of pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels used for the production of thermal energy, as well as reducing the financial costs of thermal energy", shows the announcement in e-licitatie.ro.

The first objective is to modernize the thermal energy production and transport system in the Calimănești Locality, and the second goal is to create a thermal energy production and distribution system in the Seaca locality.

Within the project, it is desired to implement a solution for supplying thermal energy for heating in a centralized system, using less exploited renewable energy sources, respectively geothermal energy, considering the high potential within the radius of the City of Călimănești.

Călimăneşti-Căciulata is among the few cities in Romania and in Europe where the thermal agent comes directly from underground, i.e. geothermal water. This thermal agent is used by 95% of economic units (mainly tourist structures), all apartment blocks, and some houses.

The specific objectives of the project:

  • Construction of two geothermal water extraction boreholes
  • Building two thermal points and equipping them with machines and technological equipment
  • Realization of a thermal agent transport network to interconnect with the existing network
  • Realization of a transport network of the thermal agent from the well to the thermal point
  • Carrying out repair work at existing thermal points and replacing boilers that use natural gas with heat exchangers
  • Realization of a thermal agent transport network to interconnect with the existing network

The duration of the contract is 72 months.

The tenderer must prove that he has executed in the last 5 years works similar to those proposed to be purchased, in a cumulative value of at least RON 53.4 million (€10.7 million) without VAT from a maximum of 3 contracts.

The deadline for sending offers or participation requests is December 21, 2023.
