RWE has commenced the development of its inaugural solar facility in Italy. Named Bosco, this ground-mounted solar plant with a capacity of 8.3 megawatts (MWac) is set to be erected in Partinico Municipality, close to Palermo in Sicily. Spanning across a 16-hectare expanse, Bosco will be adorned with approximately 15,000 bifacial modules, capable of generating ample green energy to cater to the needs of around 7,000 Italian households. The completion of the project is slated for the year's end.

Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, expressed, "Bosco marks RWE's inaugural venture into solar development in Italy. Its notable feature lies in the remarkably short duration from inception to construction, owing to the swift implementation of an accelerated permitting process in Italy. Within less than 18 months, we achieved the Ready to Build stage, a significant milestone. We eagerly anticipate the realization of our forthcoming projects in Italy, a pivotal market for us."

RWE Renewables Italia maintains a robust foothold in the Italian renewable energy market. As a global leader in renewables, RWE adopts an integrated approach encompassing project development, construction, operation, and marketing of both wind farms and solar plants. With a firm commitment to advancing its presence in Italy, RWE currently oversees 15 onshore wind farms with an installed capacity of around 500 MW in the country. Through its onshore portfolio, RWE annually supplies green electricity to approximately 400,000 Italian households. Presently, the company is actively engaged in the construction of the 54-MW San Severo wind farm and is poised to commence work on the Mondonuovo wind farm, boasting a capacity exceeding 50 MW, both situated in the Apulia region.
