TMK Hydroenergy Power, in partnership with Innovation Norway, has developed the first floating photovoltaic energy system on the Grebla hydropower plant's settling pond, a landmark in renewable energy that produces over 1 million kWh of green energy annually.

The initiative represents a pioneering action and marks a significant step towards sustainability by innovatively harnessing both solar and water energy. Once operational, in addition to its annual green energy production, it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 300 tons of CO2 per year. Over five years, this translates to a total emission reduction of up to 5,000 tons of CO2.

The floating photovoltaic power plant on Lake Grebla is a unique project in Romania aimed at increasing the potential of renewable energy. The result of the project can be seen in the amount of energy it has produced since it was commissioned. "The project represents an ambitious step towards the future by enhancing the efficiency of the hydro facility with more clean energy, and not least, marks a national first. The energy will be used for the internal consumption of the hydro facility. It is a pilot project that we believe will prove its efficiency and we hope it will be replicated.

The energy capacity produced may not be impressive—1 MW compared to the many GW of green energy needed at this moment. However, the project demonstrates the synergistic power of the two renewable sources. Moreover, the project fully supports our commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, promotes the use of clean energy, and strengthens efforts to prepare the transition to green energy," said Liviu Gavrila, Chief Generation Officer of Evryo.
