Romania's Energy Ministry has allocated €13.38 million in non-refundable Modernisation Fund financing to various universities and municipalities for developing renewable energy sources (RES) and storage capabilities.

The green energy projects funded have a combined planned capacity of 10.29 MW. Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja signed 22 financing contracts with beneficiaries including the West University of Timisoara, "Stefan cel Mare" University of Suceava, the city of Galati, the town of Radauti, Neamt County, and several communes nationwide.

The Modernisation Fund, financed by revenues from the EU's Emissions Trading System auctions, supports ten lower-income EU countries in their transition to climate neutrality.
