Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja has approved the ministerial order for the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, designed to support electricity production from renewable sources, including onshore wind and solar photovoltaic energy.

The order, along with related annexes, has been published in the Official Gazette.
This CfD scheme will provide investors with a fixed electricity sale price for 15 years, determined through a competitive auction.

The first auction will support 500 MW of photovoltaic projects and 1,000 MW of onshore wind, with starting thresholds of €78/MWh for solar and €82/MWh for wind projects.

Minister Burduja highlighted Romania's success in securing €3 billion from the Modernization Fund to finance the CfD scheme and encouraged investors to participate. The bidding process will begin in mid-November, with evaluations concluding by mid-December. Contracts for the first round are expected to be signed by the end of the year, and a second auction, covering 3,500 MW, is set for next year to boost Romania's renewable energy capacity further.
