OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeastern Europe, in partnership with Complexul Energetic Oltenia (CE Oltenia), announced the signing of the design and execution contracts for four photovoltaic parks.

The four projects will have a total installed capacity of approximately 550 MW, up from the initially estimated 450 MW, thanks to the contractors' proposed solutions aimed at maximizing electricity production. The parks will be built on land owned by CE Oltenia, located in the counties of Gorj and Dolj.
The electricity produced will be delivered to the National Energy System and is estimated to cover the annual electricity consumption equivalent of around 410,000 households in Romania.

“The signing of these contracts marks a concrete step in strengthening our presence in the renewable power generation sector. We have been active in electricity production since 2012, through the natural gas-fired power plant in Brazi, which can cover approximately 10% of Romania's national electricity output. As part of our 2030 Strategy, we aim to be a key player in Romania's energy transition, with an ambitious target of developing 2.5 GW of capacity, including through partnerships, from wind and solar sources. We have secured a solid portfolio of projects, currently at various stages of execution, which will contribute to building the energy system of the future,” said Frank Neel, member of the Executive Board of OMV Petrom, responsible for Gas and Power.

Two contractors have been selected for the implementation of the projects.
A consortium formed by Ameresco from the United States and Sunel from Greece will handle the design and execution of three of the four photovoltaic parks—Rovinari, Tismana 1, and Tismana 2—together totaling a capacity of approximately 460 MW.
The fourth photovoltaic park, with a capacity of around 90 MW, will be built by the Turkish company Girisim Elektrik, on the site of the former CE Ișalnița thermal power plant, on the slag deposit.

The total investment value for the four photovoltaic parks exceeds 400 million euros, of which approximately 70% is secured through the Modernization Fund. OMV Petrom and CE Oltenia are equal partners in the projects, each holding a 50% stake.
