Etex aims to send 65% less waste to landfills by 2025, compared to the level of 2018, and to reduce the amount of discarded waste to zero by 2030. These objectives, formulated in the medium and long-term development plan, "Road to Sustainability 2030", constitute a significant step towards strengthening Etex's sustainability and are aligned with global efforts to protect the environment.
Etex is a global manufacturer of building materials and a player in the field of light construction.
"Protecting the planet is a strategic priority for Etex. That's why we made sustainability an essential pillar of our investment plan. Both in Romania and in the rest of the world, we build and renovate state-of-the-art production units that manufacture ecological building materials with lower carbon emissions and water consumption. We are also determined to implement circularity so that our materials can be recycled and reused, while emphasizing that safety is at the forefront of everything we do" said Jochen Friedrichs, director of the Building Performance Division at Etex.
In recent years, the company has invested €8 million to start the gypsum recovery project from Rovinari, another €1 million in a new gypsum drying and micronization facility at the Aghireșu factory, and another million euros was used to improve the logistic capacity of the Turceni and Aghireșu factories.
In Romania, Etex supplies plaster products and plasterboard systems for numerous projects in the hotel industry, office buildings, residential buildings, hospitals, shopping centers, and industrial spaces.
Etex Romania Building Performance, the manufacturer of Siniat plasterboard systems, plasters, and grouts, announced that it is investing €28 million in a plasterboard factory near Bucharest, which would be put into operation in 2025.
"The investments we have made in recent years aim at long-term commercial and business competitiveness, the creation of new jobs, and the support of the communities in which we operate. With the opening of the plasterboard factory near Bucharest, we will create 80 new jobs. The proximity to Bucharest, one of the cities with the greatest construction activity in recent years and the most important industrial center in Romania, will bring us closer to the moment when we will be able to use the plasterboard boards recovered from construction sites as raw material, thus encouraging a sustainable chain approach. We rely on good collaboration with the authorities with a view to our strategic expansion and to actively contribute to the transition to a green economy, capitalizing on the opportunities of the circular economy and the property of gypsum to be an easy-to-recycle material", said Andrei Popa, General Manager Romania & Southeast Europe.
