"Our project "Romania Plants for Tomorrow" has contributed, since its start in 2020, to our strategy to build a sustainable future for communities and society as a whole. We are proud to have been able to plant over 2 million trees since the start of this program. It is a truly impressive number, which we could only achieve with the efforts of our dedicated volunteers and the support of the authorities and our NGO partners, whom we warmly thank," says Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.

"Romania Plants for Tomorrow" is the largest planting initiative financed from private sources in Romania, with a total budget of almost €9 million for the entire duration of the program, i.e. four years. Between 2020 and 2023, 20,000 volunteers planted more than 500 hectares in 90 events.

Only in 2023, with a budget of more than €3 million, the project "Romania Plants for Tomorrow" mainly focuses on the creation of miniature urban forests, bringing nature closer to where people live and work.

"Miniature urban forests are designed to increase the quality of life in congested urban areas by improving air quality, reducing noise, increasing biodiversity, and reducing temperatures in the areas where they are created. This concept was introduced in Romania by OMV Petrom and was successfully implemented in 9 cities: Moinești, Bucharest, Giurgiu, Buftea, Amara, Târgu Ocna, Constanța, Slobozia and Urziceni", announced the company.

At the same time, planting continues in rural areas, especially in areas where intervention is very necessary to limit soil erosion and to create tree screens, etc.

The afforestation actions are carried out with the support of six NGOs: Act for Tomorrow, Mai Mult Verde, Plantăm favet fave in Romania, Pădurea Copiilor, Viitor Plus, as well as the Văcărești Natural Park Association.
