Wizz Air has announced that it achieved a CO2 emission intensity of 51.2 grams per passenger/km in the first half of fiscal year 2024, 8% less than in the same period of fiscal year 2023. Regarding Wizz Air's mid-2024 fiscal year sustainability milestones, the company announces that it has signed an agreement with Spanish sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer Cepsa for future fuel supply. It is also the first Hungarian airline to commercially test the SAF supply chain in collaboration with Neste, MOL, and Budapest Airport.

It also made its first equity investment of £5 million in a UK biofuels company, Firefly, and participated in a $50 million investment in CleanJoule, a US biofuels start-up.

"Wizz Air's sustainability strategy is based on four pillars - environment, people, governance and economy. The airline is constantly working to reduce its environmental footprint and carbon intensity, develop employees, contribute socioeconomically to the regions in which it operates, and strengthen corporate governance," the company announced.

The average age of the fleet has decreased to 4.2 years, remaining the youngest aircraft fleet of all European airlines with more than 100 aircraft.

The share of new aircraft with "neo" technology in the Wizz Air fleet increased to 57%.

Wizz Air launched this fiscal year, together with Aviation Services, fully electric handling operations at Rome Fiumicino airport, allowing the reduction of CO2 emissions from the ground handling process by up to 85% for each aircraft, compared to the use of equipment with diesel engines.

The number of employees has grown to more than 8,000, with more than 1,400 new hires and more than 100 nationalities across the team.

The company has achieved a 50%-50% female-to-male ratio across the organization and a 5%-95% female-to-male ratio in the cockpit.

Launched a new, first-of-its-kind WIZZ Sustainability Ambassador program for cabin crew and office staff. More than 20 sustainability ambassadors were selected, representing 13 countries where Wizz Air is present.
