OTP Bank Romania joins Asociația Ape fără Plastic in its mission to combat the plastic pollution of the Jiu River, organizing two greening actions. Within the partnership, OTP Bank volunteers participated on Friday, May 5th, in the first action from this year. With the help of Asociația Ape fără Plastic, OTP Bank volunteers collected, at the end of last week, over 25 bags of waste from the Jiu River, in the Ișalnița Dam area. Being in the boats provided by the association, the 22 volunteers collected 300 kilograms of waste, representing objects such as pet bottles, bottles, canned food, etc.

"It was a joy to see that I have colleagues who mobilize, break their time and come to the aid of nature. I want the determination of my colleagues to inspire even more people, or why not, companies, because change begins with small steps and it takes each of us to leave behind us a better and cleaner world" says Mara Cristea, Action Ambassador and Deputy General Manager, Finance and Planning Division, within OTP Bank Romania.

A new action to clean the banks and riverbeds of Jiu, the second of this year, in which OTP Bank employees will participate, will take place in September.

"This is the second collaboration with OTP Bank and I can say that we had an even more successful action than last time because now we have put our entire arsenal of equipment on the line and all have gone on the water. After 6 years of Ape fără Plastic I stick to the idea that you can only really appreciate the size of plastic pollution of the waters by participating in actions like those organized by our association. It takes a second to throw a pack in the water and 2-3 minutes to recover it." says Dan Mirea, president of the Association Waters without Plastic.

OTP Bank mentions that it has initiated and supported in the last year internal and external projects that focus on environmental education and has also chosen to act both through plastic cleaning and through actions to revitalize the environment, offering customers thousands of plantable papers.
