Etex Building Performance (Siniat and Promat Romania), a manufacturer of plasterboard systems, plasters, and grouts and part of the Etex Group, has reiterated its commitment to build a more sustainable future and is abandoning the plastic films used in the past for the packaging of plasterboard manufactured in Turceni. Plasterboards produced in Turceni are now sold without foiling, a decision that confirms Etex Building Performance's determination to actively contribute to the protection of future generations and to encourage sustainable practices by its own example. The company is also working on a project to recover gypsum from construction site waste.

Etex's objective is to use 20% more raw material obtained through recycling by 2030, compared to the level of 2018, and to reduce the amount of non-recyclable waste to zero.

From 2022 Etex Building Performance has progressively eliminated the plastic films used for packaging, representing 66,000 kg of plastic.

In Romania, Etex operates two construction materials production units under the Siniat brand: the plasterboard factory in Turceni and the gypsum-based plasters, glazes, and plasters factory in Aghireșu. The company supplies plaster products and plasterboard systems for numerous projects in the hospitality industry, including office buildings, residential buildings, hospitals, shopping centers, and industrial premises.

"The adoption of sustainable practices implies, beyond reducing the amount of waste generated, sustained efforts to protect natural resources and to reduce the consumption of energy used, a mission that Etex Building Performance has fully assumed. Sustainability is one of the fundamental values on which Etex Building Performance (Siniat and Promat Romania) focuses its growth strategy", announces the company.

In Romania, at the group level, a large part of the funds dedicated to innovation are invested so that the products and implicitly the buildings made with Etex Building Performance products are as sustainable as possible.

“We are constantly looking to optimize our lightweight construction solutions to maintain their quality standard while becoming more sustainable. In this sense, we have introduced the SMART kit which combines the benefits of super light boards with the most advanced plasterboard production technologies. The innovative technology used to manufacture Smart Kit components reduces the amount of raw material and energy used, the products are easier to transport to the construction sites, and the duration of the construction work is reduced. We are also working on a project for the recovery of gypsum from construction site waste. We maintain our belief that gypsum is the material that will ensure the transition to a more sustainable construction industry as we succeed in implementing programs to exploit it to its maximum potential", said Andrei Popa, General Manager of Romania & SEE region.

Etex is a global manufacturer of construction materials. Founded in 1905 and headquartered in Zaventem, Belgium, Etex is a family-owned company with over 13,500 employees worldwide. It operates more than 140 units in 45 countries and recorded revenues of €3.7 billion and an EBITDA of €645 million in 2022.
