Brasov is one of the ten European cities competing for the title of Green Capital of Europe, in a competition organized by the European Commission (EC), Mayor Allen Coliban announced. He states that he wants to transform Braşov into a truly green, environmentally friendly city. The other cities running for the title of Green Capital are Brescia (Italy), Cagliari (Italy), Graz (Austria), Guimarães (Portugal), Logroño (Spain), Novara (Italy), Poznań (Poland), Rzeszow (Poland) and Vilnius (Lithuania).
"The acceptance of the application file honors us, especially since we are the only city in Romania in the current phase of the competition. The candidacy obliges us to continue all the projects to transform Braşov into a truly green city, friendly to the environment, attentive to the valuable natural heritage", stated Allen Coliban.
Brasov has the largest ecological transport fleet in Romania, with public transport being modernized in recent years with 125 new buses and trolleybuses. To these will be added another 73 electric buses for which financing was obtained from European funds.
Braşov is developing its photovoltaic park and will become energy independent in the coming years in terms of public consumption. 27 educational institutions are part of a project with European funding to produce green energy. This type of project positions Braşov in the vanguard of cities that implement green policies.
