Bergenbier SA, part of the Molson Coors Beverage Company group, has launched its Sustainability Report, which follows the actions for 2022. It is the fourth consecutive report of the company and highlights the responsibility direction of the beer producer, which focuses on three important pillars: People, Planet, and responsible consumption – highlighted in the platform launched last year, prieteniresponsabili.ro.
The percentage of waste recovery is almost 100%, with the brewer focusing on energy recovery or recycling. Moreover, water consumption decreased by 8.6% compared to the previous year, electricity consumption by 6.8%, and CO2 emissions were 4% lower compared to the previous year. Also, Bergenbier purchases entirely green energy both in the brewery in Ploiești and in the head office in Bucharest.
"Bergenbier SA has been sending a message of unity and solidarity for many years, and friendship is at the foundation of our company. In this note of friendship, we approach not only people but also resources and the environment. We are becoming more aware of our impact on the environment every day and are constantly trying to reduce the footprint we leave behind. Sustainability is, therefore, one of the main pillars of our strategy and I am glad that, here, we are already in the fourth consecutive year in which we are launching the Bergenbier SA Sustainability Report", pointed out Mihai Voicu, General Manager of Bergenbier S.A.
In 2022, Bergenbier SA became the first beverage producer in the country to introduce the cap attached to the PET bottle for all brands in the portfolio of companies that use this type of packaging. Through this action, Bergenbier SA aligned with the European Single-Use Plastics Directive. In addition, the company reduced the weight of the PET bottle, and estimates show that with these adjustments, the amount of plastic introduced annually for this type of packaging will be on average 100 tons less.
"In the Ploiești brewery, we implemented the World Class Supply Chain 2.0 strategy to reduce the carbon footprint associated with beer production. We have results as expected, with significant reductions in the use of resources such as water or energy. Also, we no longer send any household waste to the landfill, reusing it in accordance with the legislation in force. All this is the result of concrete measures applied as part of a coherent strategy and the constant efforts of all colleagues involved", added Iulius Chiriac, Bergenbier S.A. Supply Chain Director.
