Korkia and Econous Green Energy to develop 600 MW solar power in Romania

Green Forum
Korkia and Econous Green Energy have joined forces to spearhead the development of 600 MW of solar power in Romania. This collaborative effort aims to establish a significant presence in Romania's renewable energy landscape, with initial projects set to be licensed and primed for construction by 2025.

The 600 MW photovoltaic capacity translates to around 780,000 MWh of electricity production, providing renewable energy equivalent to approximately 200,000 European households once operational. Moreover, these projects are forecasted to slash carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 300,000 kg annually, akin to the emissions of about 120,000 cars each year.

Romania's solar energy sector is poised for substantial expansion, with ambitions to evolve into a net exporter of renewable energy and reinforce its position within Europe's energy framework. Projections indicate a growth surge of over 7 GW over the next decade, propelled by favorable conditions such as ample irradiation levels and available land for solar installations.

Currently, carbon-based sources contribute around 40% of Romania's energy output, but there's a clear trend towards substituting these with renewable alternatives. Additionally, the country boasts substantial hydropower capacity, providing a stable baseload to complement the intermittency of solar and wind energy generation.
