Chimcomplex unveils €2.2 billion Iasi biochemistry plant project

Green Forum
Chimcomplex Borzesti, a prominent Romanian chemical producer, is set to establish a large-scale industrial hub known as the Iasi Biochemistry Plant. This venture will require an investment of approximately €2.2 billion over a decade.

Situated in Iasi, a city in northeastern Romania, the platform will feature eight state-of-the-art factories dedicated exclusively to biochemical technologies. This initiative reflects Chimcomplex's commitment to advancing Romania's industrial sector with cutting-edge and sustainable practices.

Currently, the project is in its preliminary study phase and aligns with Chimcomplex's broader goal of rejuvenating Romania's industrial landscape through modern technology.

In addition to the industrial platform, Chimcomplex plans to build a cogeneration power plant in the nearby commune of Holboca. This facility will produce both electricity and heat for the complex, and any surplus thermal energy will be supplied to Iasi's heating system at minimal cost, according to Chimcomplex President Stefan Vuza.

As an initial step in this endeavor, Chimcomplex has submitted a proposal to acquire the heating service concession for Iasi, though the bid amount has not been revealed. The company is also seeking European Union funding to support the development of the biochemistry industrial platform.
