Wind energy was the top source of electricity production last night, contributing nearly 27% of the total, according to Romania's Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja.
The wind farms generated over 7,200 megawatts, while the total consumption reached more than 8,000 megawatts, he explained.
Wind energy production is expected to grow in the coming years, driven by record funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the modernization fund for new wind farms. On the other hand, he noted that hydropower generation is currently low due to insufficient river flow, following a dry 2024.
