Romania reached a landmark moment in its energy sector, with wind power generating over 30% of the nation's total electricity consumption—an achievement the authorities have described as symbolic.

Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja announced the milestone in a social media post, calling it a major step forward in the country's energy transition and a clear sign of the impact that sustained investments in renewable energy are having.

“The wind is blowing favorably for Romania! At this moment, over 30% of the country's energy is generated by wind turbines. This symbolic threshold is a clear signal: the energy transition is underway, and Romania is securing an increasingly strong position on Europe's green energy map. It is yet another proof that investments in renewables are paying off”, stated Romania's Minister of Energy.

In addition to wind, Burduja pointed out that hydroelectric sources contribute around 20%, while solar energy adds another 11%. Combined with nuclear power from the Cernavodă plant, a total of 82% of Romania's electricity is now produced from low- or zero-emission sources. The minister emphasized that this progress stems directly from the Ministry of Energy's strategic initiatives in recent years.
