DSV Road, the third largest freight transport company in Romania, has appointed Mihai Teodorescu as Sustainability Ambassador, aiming at the development of the Green Transport division. By the end of the year, the company estimates a doubling of the demand for green transport solutions in Romania compared to 2022. According to the company, although the market for green transport services is in its infancy in Romania, it will grow at the highest speed soon.

DSV Road estimates that, in Romania, the demand for green transport solutions will double in 2023 compared to last year, being an increased interest, especially from multinational companies, which also operate locally, monitor emissions for the entire logistics chain, and which aim to achieve ESG objectives as quickly as possible.

"Considering the growing interest in the local market for green transport solutions, but also our target to reduce the amount of CO2 by up to 40% in the next seven years, the Green Transport division is a strategic part of the DSV business fruit I am happy and honoured to be the Ambassador of Sustainability, a role through which I aim to rapidly develop the Green Transport division and facilitate the rapid transition to a greener future. Although the market for green transport services is in its infancy in Romania, it will grow at the highest speed soon, with sustainable freight transport becoming a main option for many companies", says Mihai Teodorescu, Country General Manager of Road Romania, and Sustainability Ambassador.

The alignment with the standards and directives of the European Union has led to an increase in the interest of companies in reducing the amount of carbon dioxide and, implicitly, in the implementation of Green Transport solutions from DSV Road, including the monitoring of the amount of CO2 through the most advanced analysis technology - CO2 Reporting Tool, use of biofuel road transport and supply chain optimization to reduce carbon footprint.

Also, to reduce the impact on the environment, companies mainly use the solution of groupage, which in 2023 will have an increase of 30%, according to DSV Road estimates.

"One of the most important factors influencing CO2 emissions in road transport is how you optimize the available space in a truck with the help of grouping of goods. Careful planning with a predictable schedule due to fixed transit time, fixed schedules for loading and unloading goods, and minimizing empty kilometres also helps to reduce CO2. We also believe that sustainable investments in the future of green road transport should be encouraged, including in the production of biofuel, but also in the development of the necessary infrastructure for electric trucks", points out Mihai Teodorescu, Country General Manager Road Romania, and Sustainability Ambassador.

DSV's CO2 reporting solution provides a complete overview and analysis of supply chain emissions data with reliable and accurate reporting, working with one of the leading freight transport emissions calculation companies, EcoTransIT World. At the same time, through DSV's partnership with Gold Standard, companies can support programs to reduce carbon emissions worldwide, especially in disadvantaged environments.

Also, at the level of the DSV group, a financing fund with a total value of 1 billion Danish kroner (over 134 million euros) is available, from which investments in ESG, CO2 reduction, and environmental protection programs can be attracted to Romania.

Romania is one of the most important markets in the region for the Danish group DSV, present locally for almost 30 years. Thus, for 2023, the DSV Road company expects a 10% increase in business, after last year it recorded a turnover of 70 million euros, 40% higher than in 2021, due to the increase in the number of customers and demand for all types of transport, especially groupage and intermodal.

DSV Road is one of the largest carriers in Romania and Europe, offering complete transport services - groupage regime, less than truckload and full truckload, and transport services based on biofuel and monitoring the amount of CO2, as part of the company's mission to reduce pollution. DSV Road is one of the legal entities of the DSV group, present in Romania since 1994, together with DSV Solutions and DSV Air&Sea. Part of the Danish group DSV Global Transport & Logistics, the DSV company operates in 13 cities in Romania.
