E.ON and alpitronic to promote electric mobility

The E.ON Group is continuously investing in building new ultra-fast charging points across Europe. The company has ordered 4,500 additional fast charging stations from manufacturer alpitronic. These are to be used in projects dedicated to customers and for public charging areas by 2025. E.ON shows that the spread of electric vehicles in Europe is advancing at a rapid pace – and so is the need for charging stations. The first pilot sites for charging electric trucks will be established by 2024.

At E.ON, we provide our customers with everything they need to make the change, whether for private, individual, or business purposes. Our long-standing and successful partnership with alpitronic is central to this. It allows us to further promote the expansion of the European charging infrastructure and thus ensure more environmental protection in terms of transport," says Patrick Lammers, member of the Board of Directors of E.ON, responsible for the customer solutions area.

With the 4,500 new fast charging stations from alpitronic, E.ON will further expand its own charging network and help customers across Europe switch to electromobility.

In this sense, state-of-the-art alpitronic fast charging stations, with powers between 50 and 400 kW, will be used. They cover a wide range of charging needs – from charging at work or shopping, to ultra-fast highway charging or charging for heavy commercial vehicles.

At least 15 million electric vehicles are to be registered in Germany by 2030. Consequently, Europe's charging infrastructure must develop accordingly. E.ON has set out to help shape this growth and make it easier to charge e-vehicles in public places, at work, and at home.

In addition to expanding the charging infrastructure, E.ON and alpitronic want to further improve the customer experience at the charging station. Here the focus is on the technical optimization of the interaction between the vehicle, the fast charging station, and the invoicing system, as well as Plug&Charge. All new charging stations are equipped for ad hoc charging via credit card, debit card, or regular bank transfer and thus meet the requirements of the new German Charging Station Ordinance (LSV).

The partners are also pooling their expertise to introduce charging solutions for heavy commercial vehicles and future megawatt charging. The first pilot sites with current fast-charging infrastructure for trucks are to be established in various European locations by 2024. For its truck customers, E.ON is already securing capacities from the future alpitronic production lines, which are specially adapted for loading heavy commercial vehicles in the warehouse or on the roads.
