NEPI Rockcastle will invest about €100 million in greenfield photovoltaic projects in several areas in Romania to expand its green energy generation capacity and better meet the electricity consumption needs of its tenants.
The first phase of the company's green energy project, which involved installing photovoltaic panels on 27 shopping centers in Romania, has been completed.
So far, investment in the project has totaled €34 million, and in the first half of this year, it brought in revenues of €4 million. The second phase is at the authorization stage and involves the implementation of the same concept in 24 properties owned by the company outside Romania, with a total estimated investment of €15 million.
"The first plants are expected to become operational by the end of 2026 and will contribute an additional 159 MW to the group's generation capacity. This project will provide 80% of the portfolio's energy consumption in Romania while reducing the carbon footprint by 36%. Other projects currently under development include Promenada Mall Plovdiv in Bulgaria, a greenfield project with a total leasable area of 60,500 sqm, which is in the authorization phase. The construction of the shopping center will start at the end of 2024, with completion estimated for Q4 2026," the statement said.
The total value of the developer's development projects under construction or in the process of authorization is €817 million, of which €230 million has already been invested.
