OMV Petrom starts construction on Romania's largest solar project

Green Forum
OMV Petrom has initiated construction on its largest solar project in Romania. The Ișalnița solar park, located in Dolj county, will have a capacity of approximately 89 MWp and is expected to generate around 130 GWh of clean energy annually.

A consortium of Romanian companies, including Actual Connect, Global Technical Systems, Bit Invest, and Alpin Sun, has been awarded the contract for the project's engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. The park is scheduled to be operational by the first half of 2026.

This project aligns with OMV Petrom's broader strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio. The company aims to reach 2.5 GW of renewable energy capacity, including solar, wind, and hydro power. Additionally, OMV Petrom has submitted a proposal to the Romanian government to build a 36 MWh battery energy storage system within the Ișalnița park, further enhancing its renewable energy capabilities.
