Market share of electric cars in Romania reaches 43.3% in February

Automobile Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA) announced that electric cars reported a 12.9% increase and a market share of 43.3%.

Electric cars and plug-in hybrids, as well as full hybrids (which also have electric propulsion without external source charging), held a market share of 24.9% in the second month of 2024, exceeding by 7.3 percentage points the share held by diesel engines.

In this context, fully electric cars held a market share of 9.9% in February of this year, compared to February 2023, when they represented 8.4%. It is also noteworthy to mention the sustained growth rate of fully electric cars (+6.5%) and plug-in hybrids (+13.5%) from year to year.

In the second month of this year, the top five best-selling fully electric cars are Dacia Spring - with 451 units and a decrease of 19.5% compared to the same period of the previous year, Tesla Model 3 - with 170 units (+100%), Tesla Model Y - with 122 units (+530%), Hyundai Ioniq 5 - with 38 units, and Renault Megane - with 30 units.

In the Plug-in category, the top is led by Toyota RAV4, with 54 units and an increase of 600% compared to February 2023, followed by Mercedes Benz GLE (40 units, +66.7%), Ford Kuga (40 units), Hyundai Tucson (26), and Mazda CX 60 (with 25 units).

Furthermore, hybrid cars, without external source charging, are led by the Toyota C-HR - with 178 units (+111%), followed by Toyota Corolla (160 units, +8.1%) and Toyota RAV4 (150 units).
