Eurowind Energy starts construction of Pecineaga wind farm

Alina Oprea
Danish developer and operator of wind, solar and hybrid projects, Eurowind Energy, has started construction of the Pecineaga 48 MW wind farm in July this year. The project is scheduled to become operational in the first quarter of 2025. The project will have a capacity of approximately 176,000 MWh/year, being able to supply up to 48,000 households with green energy. The wind farm involves an investment of €79 million.

„The Pecineaga wind farm will be the biggest wind project for us in Romania, showcasing the commitment and trust we have in the local market. It is not only the most important under-construction project for us in Romania but will also be the first nationally – the largest wind turbines to be installed for this specific project. We are excited to officially start works for this complex construction, after an almost standstill in the sector in the past ten years”, said Adrian Dobre, Country Manager Romania, Eurowind Energy.

Thus, in July 2023, Eurowind Energy starts works for the construction of infrastructure and facilities of the Pecineaga wind farm, except for wind turbines, which will be installed later. Scheduled to become operational in the first quarter of 2025, it will generate 176,000 MWh / year, with the capacity to supply up to 48,000 households annually.

The project involves an investment of €79 million from Eurowind Energy A/S, through WEP Technology Investment SRL. Once construction is completed, Eurowind Energy will retain ownership of the wind farm.

Eurowind Energy has an approx. 4GW pipeline of projects designed for Romania. The Pecineaga wind farm will complete the series of renewable energy projects developed by Eurowind Energy in Romania, including the photovoltaic parks in Halchiu, Măgurele (both built in 2013) and Pufești (built-in 2012). In addition, the company will start in October this year, in Teiuș, the construction of an agro-voltaic park developed on a plot of 80 hectares, which will become operational next year, in 2024.

To carry out the wind project, the largest wind turbines built so far in Romania will be installed, being supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

Eurowind Energy has been present in the Romanian market since 2011.
