Brasov to reduce pollution by 426 tons of nitrogen oxides

Brasov City Hall wants to reduce pollution by 426 tons of nitrogen oxides and 16 tons of dust in the next 4 years. The City Hall launched the Integrated Air Quality Plan (PICA) in public consultation and proposes several measures for cleaner air in Brașov. Proposals for this plan can be submitted until September 1. The public consultation stage will determine the final document of the PICA, which will be sent for approval at the national level to the Air Quality Evaluation Commission, within the National Agency for Environmental Protection, and then proposed for approval to the Local Council.

Thus, 66.68% of the municipality's surface is covered by forests and other forest vegetation, followed by constructions.

In the Integrated Air Quality Plan, Brasov City Hall presents some possible measures to reduce emissions, which are part of the Integrated Air Quality Plan for the Brașov agglomeration 2023-2027. Among them: the purchase of electric buses for public transport, the purchase of 3 electric vehicles for Brașov City Hall, the provision of parking facilities for owners of electric and plug-in hybrid cars; prohibiting the movement of cars with a pollution standard lower than Euro 3, equipping pedestrian crossings with control buttons, establishing central areas where the movement of motor vehicles with thermal engines is prohibited.

Also, the municipality wants to continue the thermal rehabilitation program of the buildings in Brașov, to replace the heating agent distribution network, and increase the area of green spaces. Another measure to reduce emissions is the planting of trees along the arteries of Brașov.

Moreover, Brașov City Hall and the Romanian Smart City Association (ARSC) signed a collaboration partnership for the organization of the Green Cities Forum (FOV) 2023, the largest event in Romania dedicated to environmental sustainability. The event will take place from 4-10 September 2023 and will host a range of activities aimed at promoting a sustainable approach to our cities. The central theme of the Green Cities Forum 2023 is "Changing the Perspective. We embrace transformation. We choose the action. Together.”, inviting participants to adopt new perspectives on environmental issues and take action for a more sustainable future.

The City Hall wants to make Brașov the "Green Capital of Europe".
