Pehart Group reduces energy consumption by 10%

Pehart Group has reduced energy consumption by 10% through machinery reengineering for tissue paper production. Pehart Group, one of the largest paper producers in Southeast Europe, has initiated an extensive process of upgrading and reengineering its machinery for tissue paper production. The company has invested over €12 million to optimize the energy performance of these machines in its factories in Petrești-Sebeș and Dej. As a result, up to 20% in energy consumption per machine will be reduced, while at the company level, the energy resource savings will reach up to 10%.

"The upgrade and reengineering of household tissue paper production machinery will significantly increase their energy efficiency. Optimizing our energy resources is not the only advantage of aligning our production technologies with the latest standards. We also estimate an increase in production capacity and tissue paper quality, " says Pehart Group's Tissue Paper Production Director, Cristian Silaș.

The Romanian company collaborated on this project with some of the top European equipment manufacturers in the industry.

"The upgraded production machines have the capability to achieve optimal product quality with lower energy consumption and, at the same time, have a lifespan up to three times longer than conventional refining plates. We estimate that the machine upgrade process for household tissue paper production lines will continue into 2024", emphasizes Cristian Silaș.

Pehart Group has launched new production lines in the past two years, diversified its product portfolio (introducing three varieties of wet wipes under the Pufina brand), and entered new international markets. With its industrial and household products already present in 19 countries, Pehart Group aims to expand its international operations and strengthen the position of its most popular brands, especially Pufina and Alint.

”The upgrade and optimization of machinery for tissue paper production are essential steps in achieving energy efficiency, expanding production capacity, and delivering high-quality products to both local and European customers. Our sustainable development strategy is built upon principles of sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the quality we offer to our direct consumers. In recent years, we have reached significant milestones in pursuing these objectives. Of course, new opportunities have also emerged within our business horizon. Strengthening the position of our brands in the European markets that we have recently entered is just one of these objectives. The new production solutions that will continue to be implemented in 2024 will serve our business purposes", adds Gabriel Stanciu, General Manager of Pehart Group.

With a history spanning nearly 200 years, Pehart Group, the oldest paper factory in Romania, produces 100,000 tons of tissue paper annually and has a processing capacity for finished products of over 75,000 tons. Currently, 35% of the total production is exported, while the remainder is sold domestically. In fact, approximately 40% of all paper products available in Romanian stores are produced by Pehart Group. Furthermore, a new processing line for Away from Home (AfH) products will soon be operational in the company's factories.

Pehart Group is present with its household and industrial products in 19 central, eastern, and southern European countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Ukraine, Greece, Cyprus, Israel, the Republic of Moldova, Germany, Albania).

Pufina, one of the most popular brands, Alint and Altessa are part of Pehart's portfolio. The company also produces jumbo rolls, huge paper rolls used in the process of conversion into paper products for household and industrial use.
